broken bells – “the ghost inside”

June 26, 2010 Leave a comment

A few months after the drop, I finally purchased the Broken Bells collaboration between James Mercer and DJ DangerMouse. The album is good but erratic, and is most successful when the elements of the songs aren’t too heavily skewed towards one of the artists strengths. This song for example, sounds more like a The Good, The Bad and the Queen pop song instead of being too heavily acoustically driven by Mercer or retro-produced by DM.

bon iver ft. st. vincent- “roslyn”

March 16, 2010 Leave a comment

“Roslyn” is a collaboration of Bon Iver and St Vincent, an acoustic gem that will lead you to serenity. And what a refreshing collaboration it is. Their voices together is the sweetest lullaby. I get shivers every time I hear Justin Vernon’s voice, and the addition of Annie Clark just makes everything fuller and beautifully harmonized. In conclusion, don’t be turned off by the fact this is on the New Moon soundtrack…in the wise words of a youtube commenter, “The fact that it was in Twilight doesn’t change the song, or how good it is” hahaha.

laura marling- “night terror”

February 10, 2010 1 comment

Creepiest video ever. Anyway I’m seeing her this weekend in Norfolk! Her voice is so sweet and soft. She’s only 20 as of Feb 1! Before going single, she sung with Mystery Jets, The Rakes, and Noah and the Whale.

edward sharpe and the magnetic zeros- “home”

A cute and cheesy little folky song with both almost twangy male and female vocalists. Be sure to listen to it a couple times, at first it may not be too catchy but after a couple listens I’m sure you’ll have it on replay in no time.
