the centre piece – “rhythmic summer”
“Roslyn” is a collaboration of Bon Iver and St Vincent, an acoustic gem that will lead you to serenity. And what a refreshing collaboration it is. Their voices together is the sweetest lullaby. I get shivers every time I hear Justin Vernon’s voice, and the addition of Annie Clark just makes everything fuller and beautifully harmonized. In conclusion, don’t be turned off by the fact this is on the New Moon soundtrack…in the wise words of a youtube commenter, “The fact that it was in Twilight doesn’t change the song, or how good it is” hahaha.

This is a beautiful song.

Alright, I swear I’ll get off my female singer/songwriter kick by tomorrow. Beck’s been fooling around producing this ladies album for the better part of 2009 and his influence is pretty obvious– if you are a fan of Beck, there is no reason you won’t like this song. On top of that, the music video is awesome for having absolutely nothing to do with the song or anything related to conscious, rational thought.

I’ll never NOT jump at the opportunity to leverage an excuse to throw another Animal Collective song up if I have a good reason for it. I never got around to finishing my 2009 Top Album list due to the addition of a little pup in the Perrone house; which made doing just about anything then letting him outside to poop a very difficult task. By that very extension, throwing up a very good (and noticeably uncharacteristic) Animal Collective song about a dog seems like a logical way to start 2010.
I’ll start updating regularly again today.

A live version, plus my fanfare-free list of the top albums of 2009 are after the jump:
Okay so this group is kinda wack and cheesy, but can have some really hilarious songs. They’re a traveling comedy show from Michigan in the upper peninsula (a “yooper” is what upper peninsulans call themselves apparently, which explains their name). Their songs are ridiculous and are more about humor than musical talent, but in light of our situations (snow snow SNOW!!) I decided to post this song. This is from their 1987 “Culture Shock” album…

Sometimes, when the groundhog fails to see his shadow, I listen to music that doesn’t sound like its gone through a relay race of megaphones and feedback distorters. I looked into the Dirty Projectors because of the near-universal praise that is lavished on them, but I’m not sure how I feel about them yet. This track is cute though; solid female vocalists that become an instrument in itself.
