I haven’t posted any funk in a good long time so here’s something you may not have heard from back when the Chili Peppers were a funk band. I don’t know enough about Bob Dylan to know if there’s any credibility to the old bromide, but I like this a good deal more than the original. Believe it or not, the sound quality is about the same quality as on the album, so I guess I won’t apologize for this one.
Ian Parton’s The Go! Team transformed from an electronic solo project into a full-fledged band when he decided to take it on the road, and the second album, “Proof of Youth,” was the result. The multi-instrumentalism of every member, the lead female MC “Ninja,” and the continued use of sampling made this one of the most fun live shows I’ve ever seen.
It’s been how long since this site’s been up? And… and I haven’t posted a single George Clinton related song?? Perhaps I sub-consciously wanted to wait it out so this place wouldn’t become my own personal P-Funk cesspool. In any case, it’s time. Parliament and Funkadelic are two bands consisting of largely the same members, masterminded by George Clinton in the early 70′s. Parliament was pure, tried and true funk, but you get to hear some of Funkadelic’s experimental rock today. The “On the Planet Mars” guitar riff and dreamy, meandering synthesizer create one of the most strangely comfortable atmospheres I’ve ever heard recorded. Also, the lead vocals at about three minutes in get me every time. This isn’t an official video, but… why the hell not?
