I can’t even fake writing a little vignette about Jay-Z. Outside of his hits and what was on The Grey Album, I just don’t know dick about him. That being said his performance on SNL last week was pretty awesome, and I was especially impressed by the band that backs him up on tour. Of the tracks I recognized, he went through Public Service Announcement, 99 Problems, Empire State of Mind and about 5 seconds of On To The Next One.

Jay Electronica is The Torch from the fantastic four. Everything I hear from him is just straight fire and its got that touch of sincerity that gives his tracks a reason to keep listening. Don’t ask me what exactly that means just go with it. He lays down some real lines in here so pay attention, and if you liked Exhibit C you will enjoy this. Also does this beat sound familiar?

Possibly my favorite producer. Not exactly sure what to say, but it’s a comfortable song for lack of a better description.

In what will be known as my infamous return to CC I give you new Gorillaz. This is the first single to drop off their new album which I believe is called Plastic Beach, but as anyone as hyped about some new Gorillaz jams? Well I am and I CAN BUHLEED DAT.

good beat, good artists, good song.

Some more Wale to brighten everyone’s New Year up. This is off one of his earlier mix-tapes “100 Miles and Running.” The beat is just so enjoyable you just have to keep listening until Wale– how do you say it, “goes in.” Great song, great mix-tape, keep an eye out for Wale.

I actually don’t really like Aesop Rock all that much. I think the parody intro of Dirt Nasty’s 1980 video is unintentionally a solid skewering of Aesop Rock’s style; the attempt to cram as many SAT words into his flow as possible. Daylight isn’t terribly different in this respect, but the beat and chorus carries it. Working class hip-hop.

Kyle reminded me of this CD last night which, if we are not counting a “Big Willie Style” purchase I made like ten years prior, was probably the first hip-hop album I ever purchased. Of all of Danger Mouse’s various projects this is probably one of his least talked about– I only picked it up because it was price-killed at a going-bankrupt Tower Records.
This song great if only so you listen to hear a church choir sing “I’m giving bitches good dick” during the intro. I must have went to the marginally less entertaining Sunday school.

Wale’s long awaited album finally came out 2 weeks ago and I must say this is my favorite song on the album. The music is beautiful, great verses by Wale and RocNation artist J. Cole. I am happy that Washington, DC finally has a notable rapper out. It’s been a long time coming for someone from DC to do something on the Hip Hop scene, and Wale is what the DMV has been waiting for in my opinion. The whole album is beautiful and even has 2 songs produced by TV On The Radio’s David Sitek. Enjoy the song and be sure to check the album out, definitely worth your money if you’re into about regular guy rap with no dumb shit. Don’t let the Lady Gaga song fool you…
