deadmau5 – “arguru”

July 23, 2010 Leave a comment

I’m getting increasingly hyped to see Deadmau5 play a set this weekend, and this is becoming one of my favorite deeper cuts off of Random Album Title. Lord knows what the title of the song actually means, but it sounds like something Richard Nixon would say when he’s dissatisfied. I’ll dance to that.

mgmt – ‘flash deilirium’

March 10, 2010 1 comment

Sorry first time I’ve been at a computer for a couple of days.

2010 is going to be an interesting year for good new music; Plastic Beach drops today which appears to be another winner for Damon Alburn and MGMT’s new album Congratulations is coming out next month. This song eludes definition, I can’t really compare it to much of anything. It definitely reinforces the idea that MGMT wanted to release an album that wouldn’t spawn any releasable singles– if I heard this on the radio, I would assume I was hearing a pirate Soviet station somehow transmitting me Red propaganda.

pantha du prince – “stick to my side” (feat. panda bear)

Outside of a truly horrific Animal Collective remix of Peacebone he penned, I don’t know anything about German DJ Pantha Du Prince. You can certainly draw some parallels between he and AC though. All of the textured-samples and droning melodies you’d expect from an Animal Collective song are present and accounted for; only someone cut the vocal track and moved your speakers to the bottom level of a European cathedral’s catacombs. The entire album this is off of (entitled Black Noise) is great music to throw on when you need to get some coding done, which should really make it popular to about .00000000069% of the electronica-fan population.

AC’s Panda Bear must have dug it though. He has guest vocals on this track.

dan deacon – “snookered”

Given both acts mindfucking musical output, I’m now convinced that there is something in the water in Baltimore with Dan Deacon and Animal Collective having grown up there. Leaving the house every day to these people must be like going on a tour of Wonka’s factory.

Thinks he’s, thinks he’s got it going bossanova, no way. No way.
