neon indian – “sleep paralysist”

July 6, 2010 2 comments

Sleep Paralysist is probably my favorite Neon Indian song and it isn’t even off his debut album. You have to jump through a few hoops, but you can download it FO FREE from here, courtesy of Mountain Dew. I suppose Mountain Dew is the acid-trip of the soft-drinks, so this cross-promotion is semi-logical.

mgmt – “song for dan treacy”

While I think I am still ultimately disappointed with MGMT’s most recent album Congratulations, a few singles off it are creeping their way into my usual rotation. I particularly like the bridge at about 2:10.

here we go magic- “fangela”

Sounds like a psychedelic Panda Bear and an upbeat Grizzly Bear. Folk-y but pop-y at the same time? Also sounds a LOT like Mazarin. Overall the sound is awesomeeee.

mgmt – ‘flash deilirium’

March 10, 2010 1 comment

Sorry first time I’ve been at a computer for a couple of days.

2010 is going to be an interesting year for good new music; Plastic Beach drops today which appears to be another winner for Damon Alburn and MGMT’s new album Congratulations is coming out next month. This song eludes definition, I can’t really compare it to much of anything. It definitely reinforces the idea that MGMT wanted to release an album that wouldn’t spawn any releasable singles– if I heard this on the radio, I would assume I was hearing a pirate Soviet station somehow transmitting me Red propaganda.

animal collective – “fireworks suite (lablakely dress/fireworks pt. 1/essplode/fireworks pt.2″ (live)

March 1, 2010 Leave a comment

As far as I’m concerned, this is the definitive version of Fireworks– an epic eight  (in some versions up to twenty) minute suite that wedges two tracks off of  Danse Manatee in between Fireworks while still keeping it’s omnipresent trademark droning drum sample. This won’t win any converts, but fans of Animal Collective will dig it.

yeasayer- “madder red”

February 21, 2010 1 comment

This is off of Yeasayer’s newest album Odd Blood. Probably my favorite on the album. The album is really psychedelic and to be honest, all over the place. Lots of bangs and clang haha. So I don’t know how I feel about it just yet, I need to listen to it more…but this song’s good!

neon indian – “local joke”

I’d like to think that when you walked around during the summer of 1980, this music was just superimposed over every aspect of your life.

of montreal – “gronlandic edit”

These guys have the sound of a modern-day Beatles group…except less rock/pop and more psychedelic/electronic. They also have a Passion Pit-y sound to them as well. The vocals are bouncy and slide-y, the lyrics are interesting… my favorite part:

Let’s fall back to earth and do something pleasant,
We fell back to earth like gravity’s bitches, bitches
Physics makes us all its bitches

The video’s pretty weird.

dan deacon – “snookered”

January 7, 2010 Leave a comment

Given both acts mindfucking musical output, I’m now convinced that there is something in the water in Baltimore with Dan Deacon and Animal Collective having grown up there. Leaving the house every day to these people must be like going on a tour of Wonka’s factory.

m83 – “we own the sky”

December 16, 2009 Leave a comment

Since my last post was a song from my snowboarding playlist, I figured I’d continue the theme for the next couple of weeks… tis the season.  Today’s track is “We Own the Sky” by M83.  I’m never one to be a huge fan of the broad genre that is “indie”, but the more straightforward trance/techno/ambient bands with vocals always seem to drift me away… and for that, I salute them.  Enjoy.
